The "Perlach Relief City" is based on a structural concept and an urban planning competition. From 1967 to 1982, a greenfield development with 21,000 apartments was built according to the guiding principle of "urbanity through density". For some years now, the large housing estate, which has often been criticized but is popular with its residents, has been undergoing change thanks to new construction and renovation projects. From 2019, preparatory urban redevelopment studies were carried out in a large part of Neuperlach. An intensive information and participation process took place in parallel. The Neuperlach North and Neuperlach redevelopment areas have been formally designated since April 2022. This has initiated a lot of work to make Neuperlach a sustainable and climate-neutral district. Neuperlach is also an area of action in Munich's urban development planning.
