The Alte Akademie in Neuhauser Straße is one of the most important buildings in the city centre in terms of history and architectural culture. It is representative of the urban development and architectural reconstruction activities after the Second World War. Part of the building was rebuilt in 1955 for the Hettlage textile department stores'. Plans from 2016 envisaged a careful restructuring and a mix of retail, catering and residential space. The development plan procedure has been completed. The construction site is currently at a standstill.
