Olympiazentrum subway station
Being awarded the contract to host the Olympic Games in 1966 gave an enormous boost to the city of Munich's underground railway plans. Previously, there had been no underground railway in Munich. As early as 1972, the U3 line was opened with the Olympic Centre as its terminus. The circular reliefs on the walls and the Isar gravel floor panels are in keeping with the spirit of the times - although the original orange-coloured plastic seat shells have since been replaced. All U3 underground stations are now on the list of monuments. This means that recognised Munich monuments are now also located below ground, and not just above it.
