When a new urban quarter was planned for a 20-hectare section of the former Siemens factory, the verdict of Munich's urban design commission (Stadtgestaltungskommission) was also crucial. This important honorary body comes into action wherever a prominent location and the external impact on the cityscape require special attention. And it was worth it for both aesthetic and residential reasons: The residential neighborhood, completed in 2014, consists of five 16-story high-rise apartment buildings in the middle of a large green space - enclosed by a five-story perimeter development. Around 2,300 people live in the district. Of the 1,000 apartments built here, 300 are subsidized housing. Another 1,000 people work in the daycare centers, an elementary school, a medical center and care center, and in offices, stores and commercial enterprises.
