Even though the global corporation has largely left the district - Obersendling is Siemensland. For many decades, industrial companies such as Siemens and other commercial enterprises had settled above the edge of the Isar slope. Together with its workers' housing estates, Obersendling was therefore a typical mixed district for a long time. Among other things, Munich's first housing estate with high-rise buildings was built here for the "Siemensians".
After Siemens withdrew, the district underwent a fascinating transformation. Close to the Isar River and with quick access to the city centre, contemporary residential quarters are being built there; former industrial sites are being converted. Today Obersendling is a popular residential district in which many traces of its industrial past are still clearly recognisable, at least architecturally.
