Platz der Menschenrechte
Slowing down, spatial intimacy and tranquility. Shaded by established pine trees, Platz der Menschenrechte ('Human Rights Square') meets the need for an urban oasis of calm. A work of art by Wolfang Winter and Berthold Hörbelt points to the rights and needs of all people; an abstract table with 30 punched-out place settings reminds us that food is a human right. Chunky oak blocks serve as seating in this square, south of the Riem Arcaden (shopping centre), which is often referred to as the ’living room‘ of the district. The narrow church tower of the parish church of St Florian stands in architectural contrast to the surrounding area.
