Kopfbau

In the 1930s, a grandstand was erected as a vantage point for air shows. Since then, the former ticket hall on the eastern edge of Messestadt has stood empty and fallen into disrepair. How could the former airport box office be used in the future? The City of Munich took a risk and made the historic building available rent-free for social and cultural uses under the title ‘ExpeRIEMent Kopfbau’. Since its launch in 2022, many users have activated the space with different programmes. Until a final usage programme is decided, the Kopfbau will be available for interim uses until 2027. During this experimental phase, the space will be used for up to eight weeks at a time, primarily by artists, associations and initiatives.
