Residential Quarter Domagkpark
Army barracks, refugee centre, artists’ colony, party location, police station - the history of the area on Domagkstrasse is diverse. Since the beginning of 2013, this city quarter has been redeveloped to promote innovative ways of living. 50 percent of the 1,800 apartments were built to support social housing. The centrepiece of the area is the public park, with its valuable, well-established trees. To the east of the tram stop is the neighbourhood square, around which important local facilities such as shops, an elementary school and a hotel are located. The Domagkpark is an example of successful consultation with a wide range of stakeholders, including local residents. For the first time in Munich, a consortium of building cooperatives and communities, as well as urban and private housing associations, was formed in order to develop a lively and dynamic neighbourhood. Two non-profit organisations are involved in the neighbourhood, promoting neighbourly engagement, support for residents and cultural and social activities.
