Built on greenfield land between 1980 and 1990, the Berliner Viertel quarter always had a strong connection to nature. It was planned as a garden city with captivating verdant avenues, gardens and courtyards populated with sycamore, Norwegian maple, plane, chestnut and weeping willow trees. Planting also includes hedges and climbing plants. Here the lake Schwabinger See is fed by the Nymphenburg Canal, which is home to carp, ducks and geese. The residential area impresses with a tranquil atmosphere, since road traffic is routed around the area wherever possible. Apartment blocks have been designed to create interesting and varied spacing sequences, allowing for a range of different open spaces. All foot and cycle paths lead to the lake in the middle of the quarter.
