Mosaic, Rosental 16
The late Gothic armoury, which has been used as a city museum since 1888, was extended in the 1920s and 1930s. Following severe damage during the Second World War, an extension with a large inner courtyard was added to the north-east from 1959 to 1964 by the architect Gustav Gsaenger (1900 to 1989). Gsaenger's façade designs make multiple references to historical buildings in the city. Above the entrance to the arcades along the Rosental, his daughter Angela (1929 to 2011) created a four-storey mosaic with a view of Munich in the early modern period. Another large work by Angela Gsaenger from 1955 can be found on the back wall of the chancel of the Protestant St Matthew's Church.
