Rindermarkt
The triangular square in Munich‘s city centre was a small area until it was redesigned in 2002. Today it is a classic ’piazza‘, exuding big city flair, with a view of Munich's oldest parish church, Alten Peter (Old Peter). The 1964 fountain, by sculptor Josef Henselmann, recalls the history of this former cattle trading market; a stone herd of cattle stands by the rippling water, watched by a seated shepherd. The fountain is a popular meeting place, as it is close to Pettenbeckstrasse which has been converted into a pedestrian zone.
