On the western edge of Messestadt Riem, the Gymnasium Riem was officially opened for the 2023/24 school year. On 12 September 2023, regular school operations began with 20 classes and around 550 students.
The now completed grammar school is part of the Riem Education Campus, which is intended to enrich the entire district as a comprehensive place of education and exchange in the future. In addition to the six-stream grammar school, the campus includes a five-stream secondary school, two triple sports halls, two swimming pools with lifting floors, the Munich Adult Education Centre and a spacious sports park. The grammar school will start with around 550 pupils, and the campus will one day have up to 2,400 pupils.
The Munich Learning House concept will be implemented at both schools. As a pedagogical and spatial organisational model, it promotes a deeper relationship between learners and teachers. This is ensured, for example, by flexible, multifunctional room units as well as separate rooms for special offers, open forms of teaching and inclusion. This contemporary learning house concept is not only practised in Riem, but also at several other Munich schools since 2015.
