Riemer Rückgrat
An idea that has been met with both enthusiasm and criticism: on the current green strip south of Willy-Brandt-Allee, there could one day be a band of high-rise buildings - the Riemer Rückgrat (Riem Backbone). Eleven wooden buildings, 45 to 60 metres high, will provide affordable rental apartments and create an urban landmark. Experimental and innovative residential typologies, plus administrative and office buildings, as well as social facilities could emerge as a redevelopment of the Messestadt (Trade Fair and Exhibition City) not far from the 'Riemer Park'. Currently, a feasibility study is investigating whether the row of high-rise buildings can be realized on the subway line.
