Since 2008, the Süddeutsche Verlag has had its headquarters in the high-rise on Hultschiner Strasse. This includes the SZ editorial office, the German School of Journalism and the publishing house's subsidiaries.
The hallmark of the colloquially known "SZ high-rise" is its slender tower. The building was originally planned to be 145 meters high. Based on a citizens' petition calling for a height limit of 100 meters, the high-rise was "shortened" to 99.95 meters. It is also the first office building in Germany to receive the LEED Gold certificate for its sustainable construction since 2010. The high-rise saves up to 80 percent of primary energy during operation and thus up to 35 percent of operating costs compared to comparable buildings.
