St Michael's parish church - one of the most important architectural monuments of the Rococo period
Centre of Berg am Laim
Clay was once mined in Berg am Laim. The bricks made from it are used in large parts of Munich's city centre and in the Frauenkirche church. With increasing industrialisation and the expansion of the railway at the end of the 19th century, the district was particularly popular with railway employees, as they could live close to work. Today, the last village-like traces of old farms can only be found in Baumkirchner Straße or Josephsburgstraße. The parish church of St Michael is located at Johann-Michael-Fischer-Platz 1. It is one of the most important architectural monuments of the Rococo period. The 16th-century church of St Stephan on Baumkirchner Platz is one of the oldest churches in Munich.
