Successful combination of tradition and modernity
Wittelsbacherplatz and Siemens-Headquarter
Wittelsbacherplatz is considered one of the most beautiful squares in Munich. Without disturbing the backdrop of classicist commercial buildings, a modern glass façade building lines the square.
Around 1,200 employees work in the 45,000 square meters of office space at the new Siemens headquarters. The new building stands for urban transparency, environmental friendliness and energy efficiency. At the same time, the smooth transition to the existing building was very important. The Siemens Passage creates a connection between Munich's city center and the museum district that did not exist before.
Together with the city, Siemens officially announced the building project in 2010 and held an architectural competition. The winner was the Danish architectural firm Henning Larsen Architects. It combined tradition with the future: The historic Palais Ludwig Ferdinand and its neighboring building were renovated and seamlessly integrated into the ultra-modern new building.
