Marienhof
The S-Bahn has been running through Munich for 50 years, originally designed for 200,000 passengers a day. Today, up to 850,000 people use the well-developed network each day. In order to be prepared for the future, Deutsche Bahn and the Free State of Bavaria are building a second tunnel on the main line (2. Stammstrecke). The ground-breaking ceremony took place in 2017 on Marienhof and the new, seven kilometre long tunnel will run almost parallel to the existing main line, relieving the bottleneck between Donnersbergerbrücke and Leuchtenbergring. For people from all over the greater Munich area, this means faster, more punctual and climate-friendly connections to the Munich city centre and the airport.
