When a new urban quarter was planned for a 20-hectare section of the former Siemens factory, the judgement of Munich's urban design commission was also important. This important honorary body comes into action wherever a prominent location and the external effect on the cityscape require special attention. And it was worth it for aesthetic and residential reasons: the residential quarter, completed in 2014, consists of five 16-storey high-rise apartment buildings in the middle of a large green area - enclosed by a five-storey perimeter development. Around 2,300 people live in the "south side", 300 of the 1,000 flats are subsidised. 1,000 people work in the day-care centres, a primary school, a medical centre and a care centre, in offices, shops and commercial enterprises.
