BMW World and BWM Tower
BMW High-rise
The BMW administration building - popularly known as the "Four Cylinder" - was designed by Viennese architect Karl Schwanzer and completed for the 1972 Olympic Games. The building, which is roughly the height of the Frauenkirche, is now part of the BMW ensemble in which the museum is located.
The statics of the four-cylinder building are remarkable, as the four cylinders are suspended from cantilevers rather than standing on the ground. In the middle, the four parts of the building are divided again by a retracted facade. A special feature is the Japanese-style facade, which consists of 2304 elements. Until 1981, the Four Cylinder was Munich's tallest office building. Then it was replaced by the Hypo high-rise. Today, the building is a listed building.
