View on the Schwabinger Tor from the Leopoldstrasse
The ensemble Schwabinger Tor
Schwabinger Tor
Nine free-standing buildings have been erected on the 500-meter-long new construction complex on Leopoldstrasse. These include a 50-meter-high hotel, whose roof terrace is a rooftop bar. The high-rise buildings "N10" and "S10" in the north and south of the quarter are home to apartments, offices and commercial premises. The "Schwabinger Tor" urban quarter is designed to be car-free. There are car-sharing offers and a connection to the public transport system with the streetcar 23. Unusual is the renunciation of a closed perimeter block development. The area is openly designed with its individual buildings and is nevertheless recognizable as a uniform ensemble due to the massive facades made of natural stone, natural stone work and prefabricated concrete elements. The site was formerly home to the Munich-Schwabing freight station, the "Schwabylon" shopping center, a wholesale market and a hotel.
