High bunker in Blumenstraße
An old bunker as a meeting place for architecture lovers in Munich? There is one at Blumenstrasse 22! The high-rise bunker, which was once intended to provide shelter for up to 1,200 people on its six floors, has walls up to 1.80 metres thick and is located right next to the Schrannenhalle. The architecture gallery has been housed there since 2021. It sees itself as a platform for the discussion of architecture and related topics.
By the end of the war, the city of Munich had built a total of 48 above-ground air raid shelters according to the plans of former city planning officer Karl Meitinger. The 'flower bunker' dates from 1941.
