Information centre second main line
The S-Bahn has been running through Munich for 50 years - back then it was designed for 200,000 passengers per day. Today, up to 840,000 people use the well-developed network every day. In order to be prepared for the future, Deutsche Bahn and the Free State of Bavaria are building a second tunnel on the main line. The ground-breaking ceremony took place in 2017 and the new, seven-kilometre-long tunnel tube will run almost parallel to the existing main line, relieving the bottleneck between Donnersbergerbrücke and Leuchtenbergring. For people from the entire greater Munich area, this means faster, more punctual and also climate-friendly connections to Munich city center and the airport. In the event of service disruptions, it will be easy to change trains in future. According to current information from DB, the second main line is due to go into operation between 2035 and 2037. Anyone interested in this major transport project and the status of the construction work can obtain comprehensive multimedia information at the information center at Marienhof.
