In the past, the Hofstatt was a hedged-off square. Today it is a popular shopping center.
The Hofstatt is a popular shortcut - for example, from the Stadtmuseum to MUCA (Museum of Urban and Contemporary Art).

Apartments have been built on Hotterstrasse.
The Schwarze Haus (Black House) used to stand on Färbergraben. It was only listed as a historical monument when it was already decided to demolish it.

Shopping arcade Hofstatt
For many years, the Süddeutsche Verlag (a publishing house) and the editorial staff of the Münchner Abendzeitung (newspaper) have had their headquarters here. Since 2013, a modern town square with historical references has been evolving on the site. The new building cleverly combines the preserved facades of old Munich with contemporary architecture. The former editorial office building on Sendlinger Strasse and the listed ’Druckergebäude‘ (printer‘s building) were not affected by the building’s construction. What is new, however, is a shopping arcade with three main galleries that form the central axis of the square. This connects the Hofstatt with the local neighbourhood and is a popular shortcut. Several entrances lead past shop windows, to the restaurants and cafés of the two courtyards. The Hofstatt not only offers space for shopping and culinary delights, the squares design concept also includes commercial space and apartments in a prime inner city location.
