Weißensee Park
At almost ten hectares, Weißensee Park and its continuation, the Katzenbuckel, form Giesing's largest local recreation area. Upgrading, redesigning and expanding the two green spaces was an important goal of the urban redevelopment programme, in part to accommodate the influx of new residents to the Agfa site.
Ideas and suggestions were collected, discussed, voted on and incorporated into the further planning at two intensive public participation events. The park was renovated in three construction phases between 2009 and 2020.
A special attraction in the centre of the Weißensee Park is the large playground with a variety of play islands that invite people to linger and play. The facilities were designed to be inclusive. In addition to the curated areas, the Weißenseepark offers a variety of recreational and activity areas with its natural character, extensive meadows and old trees.
There is a biotope in the north of the park. Species-rich planted wetlands and a newly created small pond serve as a habitat for amphibians as well as a watering place for birds and bees.
