Municipal stadium on Grünwalder Strasse
The 'Sechzger Stadium' is the home of the TSV 1860 Munich football team. After the Allianz Arena and the Olympic Stadium, the soccer stronghold on Grünwalder Strasse ranks as Munich's third largest stadium. The building, also known as 'Giesinger Höhen' ('Giesinger Heights'), is located in the middle of the city. When the game heats up on the pitch and Giesing is floodlit in the evening, the whole neighborhood outside the football temple built in 1911 is energised. Today there is still a manual scoreboard in its western stands. In 2013 the Grünwald Stadium was upgraded to make it ready for the third division. Instead of the present 15,000 spectator seats a further conversion is planned, to reach 18,060 seats, which is a testament to the strength of home support. The roof of the stand will also be extended and made ready for the 2nd Bundesliga.
