The Schenkendorf Bridge is an important connection for pedestrians, cyclists and Tram 23.
Tram line 23 runs over the bridge from Münchner Freiheit to Domagkpark.
Schenkendorf Bridge
Germany's first cable-stayed bridge is a striking architectural feature. The 84-metre-long structure safely guides Tram 23, pedestrians and cyclists over the busy Munich Ring Road or Mittlerer Ring into the city centre. Pedestrians and cyclists access the bridge by taking the stairs or barrier-free ramps on either side. This impressive self-supporting bridge is supported by a 34-metre-high mast, and anchored with twelve steel cables. Directly beneath the bridge runs the Petueltunnel. The entire Schenkendorf Bridge weighs just 30 tons - not quite as much as an empty tram. A conventional concrete bridge would have been twice as heavy, and would have required substantial support pilings in the centre of the carriageway.
