There has been a brewery and restaurant at Weinstrasse 1 since 1715. Donisl is named after its late owner Dionysius Haertl, who took ownership of the inn in 1760. This makes it one of the oldest inns in Munich. On the facade above the first floor windows there is a tavern scene by the Munich painter Max Lacher (1905 to 1988), illustrating a typical Munich inn with beer mugs, pretzels, sausages, card players and, last but not least, a Dachshund. The techniques employed in this piece are extraordinarily intricate. Lacher completed the work in 1954, applying coloured plasters onto a black base layer, which is not the traditional fresco technique.
