Sternhochhäuser
On the site of the Siemens housing estate, the two 'Sternhochhäuser' were completed in 1954. The Sternhochhäuser are the first high-rise buildings in Germany to be erected after the Second World War and were built by Siemens for its employees. Both high-rises are on the list of monuments of the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments. The high-rises owe their name to the three building sections that branch off in a star shape from a central section with an elevator. A new feature of the 'star high-rises' at that time was that all apartments had a balcony, an intercom system and a garbage chute.
In 2006, a third Sternhochhaus was built on Leo-Graetz-Strasse 16, which won the 'Cityscape Conservation Award' of the City of Munich in 2008. There are other buildings of varying heights on the Siemens site. In addition to two-story row houses, there is also a twelve-story residential building in the form of a slice. Since 2009, the buildings are no longer owned by Siemens AG.
