KRAFTWERK Power Plant
Between 1961 and 1999, this gas-fired power plant with its striking tower and two 80-metre-high chimneys was an unmistakable landmark in the south of Munich. After the plant’s decommissioning, the impressive industrial building on Drygalski-Allee remained unused for many years and was eventually acquired by the Kerscher family of investors, thus protecting it from demolition. Substantial renovation was carried out, whilst preserving a large portion of the original architecture. The building now has a new life providing space for a flagship Kare furniture store, plus branches of other well-known companies. This truly gigantic complex offers 10,000 square metres of exhibition, sales and office space. Its 70-metre-long base construction lends a loft character to the interior spaces, as well as a large roof terrace with Alpine views.
