Siemens High-rise

For some, this is the striking symbol of the south of Munich, for others it is just another sinful construction of the early 1960s. No question: The former Siemens corporate headquarters on Baierbrunner Strasse is polarizing, and also divides opinion with regard to its future use under the new name ‘South One’. When first built, the 75-metre a sprawlinghigh-rise building was the tallest office building in Munich. After its sale, options were first explored for the conversion of the building into housing. The City of Munich then gave the green light for the building’s renovation, and creation of new office spaces. Among other things, the planned conversion of the 22-storey building will have to make way for the dilapidated glass and aluminium facade. However, the character of the former corporate headquarters is to be preserved. In fact, 54 Baierbrunner Strasse is a listed building.
